For the 2022-2023 school year, incoming Bellaire 9th graders enrolling in Pre-AP English 1 must read one book over the summer out of five options: I Am Malala by Malala Yousafzai and Christina Lamb, Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand, Snowflower and the Secret Fan by Lisa See, Circe by Madeline Miller, or In the Time of the Butterflies by Julia Alvarez. (Please regular edition — not the Young Readers’ Edition — of these books.) Students may choose a second book from this list as extra credit.
Bellaire High School Advanced English 1 Summer Reading
